Organic Farming has always been the practiced and preferred method of farming throughout history until the late 30's and early 40's. During that time agriculture as a whole was going through big changes, the beginning of something called the Green Revolution, leading to the invention of fertilizers, pesticides, and "miracle seeds" Due to these innovations and inventions the practice of organic farming became less common and less profitable to the average farmer.

It wasn't until the 1940's that organic farming made it's way back into the public eye but it still wasn't seen as an viable technique. That all changed in 1962 when a environmental enthusiast, Rachel Carson (pictured on the right), published her book, Silent Spring, exposing the commonly used pesticide, DDT. In her book, Carson pointed out that the commonly used pesticides and fertilizers, DDT in particular, were leading to the suspicious disappearance of songbirds. This book basically rejuvenated the movement and brought attention to the effects their fertilizers, pesticides, and other growth hormones have on the environment. With the green movement back and stronger than ever it became a driving force pushing for the adoption of more organic and conservative methods. In the decades since then organic farming has became much more prevalent and to this date is still growing.

Organic Farming is a leading force behind movements to combat the destruction of the environment and is making huge impacts itself. The spread of organic farming all across the globe has gotten farmers from the U.S. and India to put down their synthetic fertilizers and pick the safer alternative of manure. Since the organic movement began in the 40's, organic farming has been discouraged the use of antibiotics, fertilizers, and other chemicals. They have been promoting soil health, water conservation, and animal health/welfare.

Organic Farming not only affects the environment but it's also had a giant effect on society as well. Since organic food has become a more prevalent force in the global market it's become more chosen option in terms of food for families. This availability of organic food has led to people purchasing of healthier and more humanely produced meat, eggs, milk, and other all natural crops. Organic farming farms have also partnered with businesses and schools to promote healthy dietary habits and conservation of the environment. It's almost to the point in some places where there is a stigma set on people who purchase conventionally produced produce.
